From Unsubscribing To Thriving
We often hear about how unsubscribing can calm the noise in our inboxes, reduce our screen time + put cash back in our hands from memberships we rarely use. But what about unsubscribing from parts of life that are unhealthy? The ones that no longer benefit you + clutter your time? Below are 10 things I’ve unsubscribed from to make my life more full, spacious + lovely. Because I am an imperfect human, every day is a practice in self-love. Sometimes I fall back on old habits. When that happens, I allow myself the grace to try again tomorrow.
My Unsubscribe List:
Basing My Value on the Opinions of Others: I realized that trying to conform to societal standards + expectations was not making me happy. By changing the focus to what brings me joy, I feel like I truly love the life I have.
Being a Yes Woman: I used to tell myself that saying 'yes' was a way of being helpful to others. But it only left me feeling exhausted + resentful. Now, I prioritize myself + only commit when I have the emotional space + time to do so.
Hating the Body That Allows Me to Move and Feel Alive: Embracing self-love + gratitude for my body has not been easy, but it has been liberating. Unsubscribing from body shaming has allowed me to feel grateful for all my body does for me.
Allowing Space for Energy Drainers: I now focus on relationships + activities that nourish me, unsubscribing from people + tasks that drain my energy. This has made life feel lighter + more fun.
Telling Myself I Am Not Worthy: Every day is a practice in battling imposter syndrome. I continually work on unsubscribing from self-doubt + letting others make me feel like I cannot achieve or be more.
Beating Myself Up for Needing Rest: Embracing rest as essential, I have unsubscribed from the guilt associated with taking time for myself, regardless if the need is more physical energy or emotional energy.
Banning Myself from Enjoying Foods: I found balance and joy in eating what I love. I unsubscribed from restrictive dieting. Rather, I focus on listening to what my body needs at the moment, allowing both physically + emotionally healthy foods.
Acting to Match Age Expectations: Living my authentic self does not always look the way I was taught to be as an adult. How I dress, the activities I enjoy + what my relationships look like are up to me + me alone.
Making Myself Small: I am working on not shrinking myself for others' comfort. I can be as loud or large as I want to be. I no longer want to deny myself a seat at the table.
Hiding My Unique Traits: I love what makes me an individual, even when society views a trait as undesirable. No one can be me + I no longer want to blend in with the crowd.
